Ordered sushi, crab rangoon, orange chicken, pad Thai with shrimp, and the matuba combo through GrubHub. Sushi was not temp controlled. Pad Thai was dry. Orange chicken was super salty. Only good thing in this 60 dollar meal were the crab Rangoon. Husband and I wanted to try something new and support a local resturant during this craziness going on, but dont think we will be going back anytime soon.

My girlfriend and I spent valentine's day here . It was our first time, but it definitely won't our last. We sat at the sushi bar, watched Robert perfect sculpt our sushi; he was very friendly and made great conversation with us. The only thing better than the atmosphere here was how delicious the food was. We've been to all sushi restaurants around this area, Matuba topped them all by far.

We have been going to see Robert for 15 years and have never had a bad meal. Authentic sushi hand rolled in front of you. It takes time sometimes but is always worth it.

I will not go back. We had a party of 8, and the whole time we were there, there was only 2-3 other tables. Service was unbelievably slow!!!!! We were seated at 6:40 and didnt begin getting our main courses until 2 hours in. They couldn't serve our party all at once but it took 40 minutes more for the last person to be served. We finished at 10pm, almost 3 and a half hours later. The food was ok, but not great. Only reason for 2 stars is they comped most of our drinks due to such slow service.

What happened to Robert? This used to be our spot. I was so sad that even the tea was just luke warm. :( I hope this place does better soon. I am rooting for them and hopefully it does get better so it can be our place again.

This is by far the best sushi I have ever had. The owners are talented and kind. The staff is so helpful. Not only is the sushi delicious but all the other food on the menu is great too!

DELICIOUS!! Such a great restaurant. The chef is amazing and so is the food! Service was friendly and polite. The Mango Sticky Rice dessert is a perfect way to end your experience! You get treated like family and the food quality is PHENOMENAL! The Spicy Curry Rice is so tasty. The Pad Thai is good and the Lad Na noodle is my FAVORITE!

Robert has the best sushi in town!

with zero customers it still takes 20-30 minutes to make a dish. Then the owner comes out of the kitchen drunk and trying to take photos and videos of each customer because he has nothing else to do.

I got it delivered and they wrote cute smiley faces on my boxes and the food is DELICIOUS

I enjoyed it. It wasn't the best, but the drunken noodles hit the spot and left nothing to complain about. However, they also left nothing to really praise, either. Meanwhile, my better half ordered the N.D. sushi rolls, and she had quite a bit to complain about. They were messy, unable to hold their shape, and lacked consistency between the different rolls. Most likely never ordering here again, but not disappointed at trying a new place.

I am a food delivery . They are the slowest restaurant that I have to pick up at. I am not paid by the hour I paid by the delivery. They barely eke knowledge you are there. Not the most friendly place

Came here for a date night dinner, lobby was completely empty when we arrived, and over the next 80 minutes we were there, we saw four other tables get served before us and over a dozen online orders fulfilled. By the time we left, we hadn't even been served our complete order and the chef commented that he wasn't even working on it! I'd rate this place 0 stars if I could, I'd like my time back.

My husband and I ate here for the 1st and only time approximately 6 years ago. The food was delicious and hot. The staff was very friendly. They had an amazing sauce to go with the egg roll that I had never had before and still have not had again. I will definitely eat here in the future

Best sushi in the area. Wonderful, buttery salmon which is always cut large enough to hang heartily over the edge of the rice. Great prices and portions. I have never had a roll here I did not like. Robert is also very friendly and thoughtful. I have been eating here for many years, and have seen many "nice" sushi places be built and closed (and their sushi did not approach matuba's, though their prices far exceeded). Matuba is the best!

I will definitely be back. I loved everything I got here. I sat up at the sushi bar section, and really enjoyed watching the chef cook. He was funny and personable, and offered suggestions on what to order. Everything he made was delicious, including a special spicy sauce he gave us to eat on the side. I ordered a bento box, which had sushi appetizers (I believe a California roll and spicy tuna, but I could be wrong), and ordered a seafood stir fry. Everything was great and there are so many other things I want to try.

This place has some of the best sushi in this area. Robert is awesome sushi chef and makes his sushi with skill. Sometimes you have to wait for a bit so it's probably not a place you want to go to if you are on the run (unless you call ahead) but to have a nice dinner after a long day at work or simply a nice chill lunch this place is awesome. For being in south bend i'm surprised how good the fish is here, also bento boxes for lunch are great. They are priced well and have a nice amount of food in them.As far as the looks of this place, yes it could use an upgrade but it's clean and has good food which is in my book already way ahead of many other places in south bend. Robert makes awesome spicy tuna!!!

My boyfriend and I both really enjoyed it. Lots of choices and great flavor.

You will be treated like family when you are here. Robert will bend over backwards to make you happy, and it's just a wonderful, no chain, local delight. Especially when you let chef off the chain and say do your thing! He gets create in the most lovely ways. However, a lunch bento box is a great value, perfect amount of great food for not much. Just awesome.

This is the spot for great sushi and southeast asian cuisine. Our fifth time here and have ordered something different each time, all were delicious! Impressed with the service, but amazed by the food.

Ownership and menu has changed. The sushi selection is way smaller now. New owners are friendly but the old menu and pricing was better.

This is the best Sushi in the area, no question. The restaurant staff are very friendly and make you feel at home. Robert is the owner and personally prepares the rolls. (They have over 100) They also have a large menu of other items if you are not a sushi fan. You will be happy you tried this place!

Unfortunately new owners and new menu. We used to like to go for their sushi and bento boxes. They raised prices considerably and dropped quality. Sushi rice was like a paist. Miso soup tasted like old beef broth. And $18 for a lunch menu bento box is outrageous.

We are in town after our car accident. As Thai, we were searching for the authentic flavor thai food to fulfill our craving. We chose this one and desired to try. We did not expect that the favor would meet our expectation. Surprisingly, we felt like we were sitting and having the dinner at one of an aunt’s house. Food was authentic. We asked for flavorful Lab with no spicy for our 19 months twins and it was great. Thai fried rice was cooked like Thai style tasted like home (As authentic as you can get.) papaya salad was amazing and went well with the chicken wings. Lilly was so friendly with the good service mind. I like that the restaurant is big, kid friendly, and clean washroom. Over all was great. Sorry that we did not have any pictures in this review. We were so hungry and happy. No time for pictures!

Chef Robert is amazing. He really cares about his customers. He remembers us each time we go in. You have to try Robert's Sauce, it's magical.

I love this place. The fish is always fresh, and it is reasonably priced (I only ever get the sushi). The owner is really nice and always makes sure to say hi when you walk in. The only downside is that they do tend to put mayo on everything, but I'm sure you can ask them for no mayo. I set up an alert on my phone to remind me of that when I get near the restaurant. Otherwise, this is definitely the best quality sushi around.

Hands down my #1 most favorite restaurant! This place turned me on to sushi and I loves the service! The Robert #1, Monica roll, and the Notre Dame roll were some of my faves.😋🍤🍣Robert and his wife were amazing!! Thank you guys for all the amazing years of excellence and excited to hear about the new moves and whenever I visit again, I'll look forward to stopping by to meet and eat with the new team!
